
June 23 – The playing surface at N.Y. N.J. Stadium is already drawing concern, with players grumbling and fans piling on across social media. And it’s not a new problem because the pitch quality has been a worry since last summer’s Club World Cup.
The grass was sourced from a turf farm in North Carolina, hauled north on a 12-hour journey on 27 trucks. The original plan was to use turf from a farm in nearby Hammonton, New Jersey but a harsh winter forced FIFA to change course.
