June 26 – Canada has reportedly rejected more than half of all World Cup visa applications from fans who wanted to attend the tournament.
Local media reported that thousands of visa application were rejected by Canadian authorities. Data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) from November 14 to March 31 revealed that just 41% of all applications – 17,000 applications from more than 160 countries – were approved.
Visitors to Canada typically require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) or temporary resident visa to enter Canada. Visas are required for visitors from about 140 countries.
