Stéphanie Frappart steps into senior role on UEFA’s referees committee

June 26 – The UEFA Executive Committee has appointed Stéphanie Frappart as Refereeing Officer on the UEFA Referees Committee, placing one of the most high-profile officials in modern football into a senior administrative and technical role overseeing the development of match officials across Europe.

Frappart, an international referee since 2010, has overseen more than 100 UEFA fixtures and built a career defined by landmark appointments as well as refereeing consistency at the elite level. Her resume includes the 2019 UEFA Super Cup between Liverpool and Chelsea in Istanbul, when she became the first woman to referee a UEFA men’s final.

She was also the first woman to officiate a men’s Ligue 1 match, the first to take charge of a men’s UEFA Champions League fixture, and later became the first female referee appointed to a men’s FIFA World Cup match, cementing her position as one of the most recognisable officials in the game.

In her new position, Frappart will help to direct UEFA’s refereeing structure, where her job description is to work on appointments, performance evaluation and technical development of match officials across UEFA competitions. The role places her within the decision-making framework that shapes elite refereeing standards and progression pathways across Europe.

UEFA confirmed the appointment on Thursday following a meeting of its Executive Committee, while also paying tribute to outgoing Referee Officer Dagmar Damková, whose tenure included an important period of development work within the elite refereeing system.

Damková was thanked for what UEFA described as her “significant contribution” to refereeing, with her work in performance structures and development pathways acknowledged internally as a key part of recent reforms in the European game.
