South Korea next on the hook for quickfire bidding for UEFA club competition rights

June 25 – The enduring pull of the Champions League is on full display again, this time in South Korea, where UC3 and Relevent Football Partners have launched the media rights tender for the next cycle of UEFA men’s club competitions.

The process opened on June 19 with a deadline of June 29 giving interested parties barely over a week to bid. The rights cover four seasons from 2027-28 and include the elite Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and the annual Super Cup.

The current cycle is shown in the market by SPOTV, the commercial broadcaster owned by Eclat Media, which has held these rights since 2011. And there’s a clear local hook keeping demand warm. South Korean stars featured prominently in 2025-26 with Kim Min Jae at Bayern Munich, and Lee Kang In at back-to-back winners Paris Saint-Germain.

That is the story of the Champions League everywhere you look. Local heroes on the biggest stage turn a European competition into appointment viewing on the other side of the world and broadcasters keep paying to be part of it.

However, there is one complication. Major South Korean broadcaster JTBC is in court receivership, its assets frozen after the JoongAng Group affiliate missed a repayment on a $13.6 million debt.
