AC Milan look to former tennis player Calvelli to serve up reset at San Siro

June 30 – AC Milan have appointed Massimo Calvelli as Chief Executive as part of cultural reset.
The seven-time European Cup winners suffered a season to forget, finishing fifth in Serie A and missing out on the Champions League.
As a result, changes are afoot, and the arrival of Calvelli, a former tennis player and ATF chief, is intended to inspire a return to a winning mentality.
Calvelli will keep his roles as CEO International at RedBird Development Group and Operating Partner at RedBird Capital Partners, the US private equity firm that owns the club.
The 51-year-old replaces Giorgio Furlani, sacked last month after what RedBird bluntly called “an unequivocal failure” of a season.
RedBird founder Gerry Cardinale framed the appointment as a culture reset, praising Calvelli as a leader who builds collaboration and professionalism. “The mandate is clear – we will play to win, instead of playing not to lose,” Cardinale said, vowing to bring a winning culture back to the club.
Calvelli, a former Nike senior executive who led the ATP for over five years, sounded equally direct. He spoke of taking on the role “with a profound sense of urgency” and said a year inside the club has given him a hands-on sense of what needs fixing.
With his background in tennis, Cavelli will have to serve aces to get the Rossoneri back to the top of the table
