Zee snaps up Bundesliga rights in India

July 2 – The Bundesliga has secured a new home in India after agreeing a multi-year broadcast deal with Zee Entertainment Enterprises.

From the start of the 2026/27 season, Bundesliga matches will be shown exclusively on Zee’s Unite8 Sports television channels and streamed on Zee5, ending the league’s search for a long-term broadcast partner in the country.

The agreement is another significant rights win for Zee as it expands its sports portfolio, having also acquired rights to the World Cup this summer. The Bundesliga will be looking at it from the angle of access to one of the world’s largest TV audiences at a time when every major international league is looking to take advantage of that potential growth outside of Europe.

According to the league, Bundesliga viewership in India has increased by over 50% across the past four seasons.

Beyond the media rights themselves, the agreement includes a commitment from Zee to invest 15% of its football subscription revenue into grassroots football initiatives in India. The broadcaster and Bundesliga will also launch a nationwide programme of coaching clinics and youth development events involving Bundesliga clubs.

Unlike some European leagues that have concentrated primarily on media rights, the German league has spent years building relationships through its Bundesliga Dream project and partnerships with local authorities, including its ongoing collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
