RB Leipzig are ‘getting serious’ about a move for Burnley defender Maxime Estéve, with a deal ‘on the verge of being signed’.
BILD report that the 24-year-old appears set to make the switch from Burnley to Leipzig this summer. According to their information, a deal in principle has been agreed.
Leipzig serious about Burnley man
The newspaper reports that Leipzig have agreed a deal with Burnley for Maxime Estéve worth around €25m. The deal has not been finalised, but it is expected to be completed in the next few days.
Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schäfer is keen to push ahead with squad planning this summer and the centre-back is a firm part of those plans. Sport Witness already reported on their growing interest.
The Burnley defender is seen as a ‘good fit’ by the German club thanks to his Premier League experience. BILD, say he impressed last season with ‘some strong statistics’ despite the Clarets’ relegation to the Championship. He was previously a key player as they secured promotion to the top flight.
They’re also aware that Vincent Kompany, who signed him at Burnley in 2024, remains a big fan. He even reportedly tried to sign him at Bayern Munich last year.
Burnley exit close
Now he’s on the way to Leipzig instead. The timing of the deal has left most surprised, though.
Leipzig’s squad is currently too big, and their management had intended to sell one of two centre-backs this summer before making any further moves in the transfer market.
Instead, they have been left feeling there was no time for that. According to BILD’s information, RB’s bosses were concerned that the deal for the Burnley defender would fall through. So, they have now decided to take action on the matter straight away.
A deal for the 24-year-old is now in the final stages, with confidence in Germany that a deal will be completed in the next few days.
