Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade is using his summer vacation to train at Werder Bremen, and the German media are all over it.

Woltemade working hard
The outlet report on a ‘high-profile visitor’ at Bremen this week. Nick Woltemade is using his summer vacation after the World Cup to ‘put in extra shifts’.
The Bremen native spent Thursday training with U19 player Mika Strüder on Pitch 12 at Bremen’s Weserstadion. According to Bremen’s official club homepage, he ‘clearly has a blast doing it’ as well, and he looks pretty happy.
They’ve included images of Woltemade’s surprise visit, with the Newcastle United striker looking very pleased to be back at his former club. He made 51 appearances for the German side after coming through their youth ranks, playing for their II side, the U17s and U19s.
He left on a free transfer in 2024 to join Stuttgart, before then heading to Newcastle United in a €75m transfer last summer. It appears that there’s no ill-will over that exit two years ago given the warm welcome he’s clearly received this week.
Point to prove at Newcastle
The striker is doing everything he can to head back to Newcastle this summer ready to hit the ground running.
His first year at St James Park was not what he would have envisioned. While he started the season strongly, that faded as the campaign went on. He had a long goalless run that only came to an end late into the season.
Some fans became frustrated, believing Eddie Howe was misusing Woltemade.
He needs a strong campaign, preferably playing as first choice striker, to get back on track. If not, the doubts, and questions, are only likely to keep on growing, particularly with a €75m transfer fee lingering over his head.
