Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Orlando Gill and have now discovered how much San Lorenzo want for the goalkeeper.
The Paraguay international had already been linked with a move to Old Trafford following his performances at the World Cup.
Brazil’s RTI Esporte now provides more detail on United’s work behind the scenes. It claims the Premier League club have made initial contact to assess a potential transfer.
Manchester United have reportedly tracked the 26-year-old since the beginning of the season. Their observations intensified after the tournament.
Manchester United make first contact
Orlando Gill is viewed as a player capable of taking on a prominent role in European football, according to the Brazilian outlet.
A goalkeeper is said to be one of Manchester United’s priorities in the current window. Gill has therefore moved higher on their list.
The club’s recruitment department reportedly values his physical presence and ability when dealing with crosses. They also like his distribution and the personality he showed in high-pressure matches.
These claims provide a clearer picture of United’s interest. Previous reports had placed Gill on their radar, while RTI now says preliminary contact has taken place. Yet there is still no suggestion of a formal proposal.
San Lorenzo set asking price
Orlando Gill could be allowed to leave San Lorenzo for €10m (£8.5m), according to RTI Esporte.
The Argentine club reportedly accept that it will be difficult to resist growing European interest in the goalkeeper.
That valuation is the key development for Manchester United. It gives them a figure around which any future negotiations can begin. RTI also states that Gill’s contract contains a €20m (£17m) release clause.
So San Lorenzo are prepared to negotiate at half that amount during the current transfer window. Last week we learned that Olympiacos was the first club to make a formal offer for the goalkeeper, but there were no developments to that yet.
Gill’s contract runs until December 2027, which still gives the Argentine side some protection. Transfermarkt currently values him at €6m and confirms the length of his deal.
The reported €10m (£8.5m) demand represents a premium on that valuation. It also reflects the increased attention Gill has received since the World Cup.
Manchester United have not yet reached the bidding stage. However, RTI’s update suggests their interest now extends beyond simply watching the player.
The next significant step would be a formal approach to San Lorenzo. United already know the price required to begin serious negotiations.
