Newcastle United are now actively competing with Coventry City for the signature of AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori.
The centre-back has reached the end of the road at the Rossoneri. While he was a regular last season, Ruben Amorim doesn’t see him as a part of his plans.
Tomori’s contract runs out in the summer of 2027, which had attracted interest from Coventry City. SportWitness covered their initial contact, with the player valued at between €15m and €20m.
Now, Newcastle United are emerging as a serious candidate and have made moves of their own.
Player on his way out
Today’s Corriere dello Sport look at the centre-back’s future, appearing sure that he will leave Milan.
The San Siro club are focusing on exits and want to find a new club for Tomori as quickly as possible.
Coventry City are interested but the newspaper report that Newcastle United have also ‘made enquiries’ for his signature.
The centre-back is evaluating his options, having previously expressed doubts about a move to the Sky Blues. But a move to England is the suitable option for him, with the player having rejected Tottenham back in January 2025.
He may not have a choice now because of his contract scenario, as Milan don’t want to lose him for free next summer.
Both clubs should lie in wait
Since Tomori is yet to make a decision, more clarity about his next destination should emerge in the next few weeks. He is probably waiting to see if better opportunities come by, especially as Newcastle United won’t play in the Champions League.
Tomori’s weaknesses on the ball are obvious. He is very reliable off the ball, but he would struggle to attract clubs that will play in Europe’s premier competition.
That is exactly why Coventry City and Newcastle United should still have hope of signing him. He would be a reliable squad player for both and should arrive for an affordable figure.
