Nottingham Forest now have a clearer picture of what it will take to sign Mikel Amondarain. More details emerged on Bologna’s failed attempt to prise the midfielder away from Estudiantes.
Forest recently made initial contact with the Argentine club to ask about the conditions of a potential transfer. However, Bologna remain the only side to have tested Estudiantes with a formal bid.
According to Argentina’s Olé, the Serie A club offered around €6.8m (£5.9m) for the 21-year-old, only for the proposal to be rejected. Estudiantes are now waiting for an offer worth €8.5m (£7.4m) before agreeing to sell one of their brightest academy graduates.
Bologna still pushing
The report adds another twist to the race by revealing Bologna have no intention of walking away.
Claudio Fenucci, president of Bologna’s football department, confirmed the Italian club remain determined to complete a deal.
“He has the characteristics we are looking for and he is also the right age. His financial situation fits our plan. We are trying to find a solution,” he told Olé.
Those comments says it all about Bologna’s determination. However, they also provide Nottingham Forest with a better idea of the level they will have to reach. This applies if they decide to move beyond their initial enquiry.
Forest know the asking price
Mikel Amondarain remains the player Estudiantes expect to sell before the transfer window closes, and the club’s stance appears to be firm.
Forest have already held exploratory discussions with the Argentine side, but have yet to submit an official proposal. Meanwhile, Estudiantes have now rejected two offers. These are €6m (£5.2m) from Real Betis and around €6.8m (£5.9m) from Bologna.
Their reported asking price of €8.5m (£7.4m) remains relatively modest for a 21-year-old midfielder regarded as one of Argentina’s brightest prospects.
Amondarain is expected to start against Independiente in Estudiantes’ opening Clausura fixture this weekend, in what Olé believes could be his final appearance in front of the club’s supporters before a move to Europe.
