Watford fans are in for a surprise when they take on Hansa Rostock this weekend, with 6,000 German fans making the trip to Vicarage Road.

BILD report on the ‘incredible’ sale of tickets at the German club. According to them, hosts Watford are set to be ‘outnumbered in their own stadium’.

Watford outnumbered

The newspaper reports that Hansa Rostock sold out an allocation of 6,000 tickets for the clash with Watford within just a few hours. So far, the Hornets are expecting only around 2,000 home fans.

In other words, while it is officially an away game for the Germans, the atmosphere at Vicarage Road may feel very different.

The excitement for Hansa fans has come from the fact it’s the first time Hansa will take to the field in England. Thousands of supporters see the journey as an opportunity for a special weekend ‘in the birthplace of football’.

Hansa Rostock excited

Coach Daniel Brinkmann has already been busy ramping up the experience.

“I am firmly convinced that it will be an impressive experience,” he said.

“An international match against an English club—that’s sure to be special. It doesn’t get much better than that for pre-season.” He is even taking a 29-man squad to England so everyone at the club can share in the experience.

They’re flying to England on Friday at 3pm before returning to the Baltic coast on Sunday, the day after the game.

Watford, for their part, are preparing for the influx of German fans. They’ve set up a fan zone for the Rostock supporters outside the ground, starting at 10am.

They’ve been made more than aware of the importance for Rostock fans, who see the weekend as a potentially unforgettable experience. They don’t want to miss out on a ‘historic first’ that ‘generations of Hansa fans’ have been waiting to experience.
