Torino are keeping a close eye on Leeds United’s efforts to sign James Trafford, believing it will open their own negotiations for Lucas Perri.
Toro.it report that Torino are ‘closely monitoring’ the situation around Trafford as it could end up benefitting them.
Torino watching Leeds
The Italian club are watching reports in England over the last few days which have indicated that Leeds are accelerating their pursuit of Manchester City’s James Trafford.
Those ongoing negotiations are a welcome development for Torino. They want to sign Lucas Perri this summer, with sporting director Gianluca Petrachi identifying him as the top candidate for Torino’s goal.
Their efforts to sign the Brazilian could hinge on the developments around Trafford. Sport Witness have covered various reports on their interest for weeks, including the last, five days ago, explaining they may seek a loan deal.
Leeds free to release Perri
The feeling in Turin is that the arrival of Trafford would free up Leeds to release Perri and ‘pave the way’ for him to depart.
Leeds have been blocking a deal because Perri is currently the only goalkeeper in their squad. They have lost both Karl Darlow and Islan Meslier this summer.
But a deal for Trafford would leave them with a new number one. And, as a result, may have ‘decisively unlocked’ Torino’s efforts for Perri. That would be a welcome outcome for both the player and the Italian club.
Lucas Perri only signed for Leeds last summer in a deal from Lyon. The intention had been for him to be Leeds’ new number one in their return to the Premier League.
But he ended the season sat on the bench after falling out of favour under Daniel Farke. Reports have subsequently linked him with a move away from Elland Road. Now that could be accelerated by a new arrival at the club, if negotiations for Trafford go positively.
