Celtic are now closing in on the signing of Kasper Høgh after the striker travelled to London ahead of his medical. Now, the transfer is entering its final stages.
Celtic boss Martin O’Neill has been keen to bring in the Høgh as The Bhoys look to defend their Scottish League title.
The Scottish champions have been working on the deal for the Bodø/Glimt forward. According to Danish newspaper Tipsbladet, the 25-year-old left Norway on Sunday aboard a private jet. The jet was bound for the English capital.
The report states Høgh will undergo his medical in London on Monday before travelling on to Glasgow later that day. Then, he is expected to sign his long-term Celtic contract on Tuesday. This will bring an end to one of the club’s biggest moves of the summer.
Tipsbladet adds Celtic will pay €12m (£10.4m) for the Denmark international.
The Danish newspaper describes it as a club-record deal. However, publicly available transfer records currently list Jota’s €16.2m (£14m) arrival from Benfica and Arne Engels’ €13m (£11.2m) move from Augsburg as the club’s most expensive signings. That could indicate add-ons or other clauses not detailed in the report.
Transfer backed by remarkable numbers
Kasper Høgh has earned that price tag through his prolific spell in Norway. Since leaving Danish football for Stabæk, and after joining Bodø/Glimt at the beginning of 2024, the striker has developed into one of Scandinavian football’s most consistent goalscorers.
Across 103 appearances for Stabæk and Bodø/Glimt, he has produced 54 goals and 22 assists. This means he has been directly involved in 76 goals during that period.
His performances also caught attention in Europe. Last season he scored six Champions League goals, finding the net against Manchester City, Atlético Madrid, Sporting CP and Inter. This further enhanced his reputation before Celtic made their move.
Those numbers help explain why Martin O’Neill’s side have been prepared to spend heavily on the forward. Again, Tipsbladet describes the move as a record transfer. However, the financial structure behind that claim has not been explained.
Final step before official announcement
Barring any late issues during the medical, there now appears little standing in the way of the deal becoming official.
Høgh’s arrival would hand Celtic another proven goalscorer ahead of the new campaign and represent a significant statement in the transfer market.
The Scottish champions have shown throughout the negotiations that they see the Dane as a key addition, and the process is now moving exactly as planned, with only the formalities remaining before the transfer is completed.
