Celtic look to have made a big breakthrough in their pursuit of Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan as Martin O’Neil looks to add to his squad.

Celtic have been chasing the Egyptian for several weeks. Reports first claimed they had submitted a €4m (£3.5m) offer before suggestions they were ready to increase that figure to bring him to Celtic Park.

At some point, Liverpool also emerged as reported contenders. Despite that, Celtic have continued to push ahead with negotiations. And now they appear to be edging even closer.

Hassan has agreed to join Celtic

Journalist Pablo Oliveira reports Hassan has accepted Celtic’s contract offer and is ready to make the move to Glasgow.

According to the journalist, Real Oviedo are also prepared to let the winger leave, with the clubs and the player’s representatives now working through the final details of the bonus structure before everything can be signed off.

If those talks go according to plan, the transfer should not take much longer.

Only the finishing touches remain

Oliveira adds that Hassan is expected to sign a four-year contract with Celtic once the remaining details are resolved.

The report does not mention the transfer fee, so it remains unclear whether Celtic have moved closer to Real Oviedo’s demands or whether a compromise has been reached.

The Spanish club had previously been pointing interested clubs towards the player’s €12m (£10.4m) release clause, although later reports suggested Celtic were prepared to improve their original proposal.

Either way, this is the clearest sign yet that the move is heading towards the finish line.

The player has now reportedly accepted Celtic’s proposal, Real Oviedo are willing to sanction the transfer and discussions are focused on the bonus package.

If those final talks are completed successfully, O’Neil could soon have another attacking option at his disposal.
