Aston Villa have entered the race to sign Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, after his move to Paris Saint-Germain collapsed.

Earlier this summer, Juventus made advances to sign Emiliano Martínez before the Villans stopped his exit.

The uncertainty around Martínez saw Aston Villa reportedly look at Suzuki as an option in July.

PSG made concrete advances to sign the Japan international, after reaching an agreement with him and Parma. However, the move won’t go through, allowing other suitors to make an attempt.

Aston Villa pushing for signing

According to Sportitalia, the UEFA Conference League winners have offered €30m in fixed fee to sign Zion Suzuki.

It’s unclear whether the Serie A side have accepted it, but the negotiations are ongoing.

Gazzetta dello Sport are also reporting about Aston Villa’s attempt to sign the 23-year-old this summer.

His move to PSG didn’t go through because of the excessive demands made by his agent and intermediaries. This gives Unai Emery’s side a fresh opportunity and have already taken action to sign him.

Aston Villa in advanced negotiations

According to the newspaper, the Premier League side have offered €35m, the same figure proposed by the Champions League winners. This is probably including bonuses because Sportitalia reported only the fixed fee [€30m].

Zion Suzuki’s entourage could find Aston Villa’s proposal ‘more convincing’ than the one made by PSG.

If he were to accept a move to Villa Park, it could favour Juventus. That’s because Aston Villa could allow Emiliano Martínez to leave if they were to secure Suzuki’s services.

Earlier in the window, the 33-year-old Argentina international gave his approval to the Old Lady. The Villans wanted €15m, while Juve favoured a loan with an option to buy set at €7.5m.

Their fresh approach for the Parma stopper has seen the Turin club monitor the former Arsenal man.

According to Parma Live, Emery’s side have matched PSG’s offer and are in advanced negotiations with the Italian club.

The outlet states: ‘But one thing tipped the scales in the Villas’ favor: the guarantee of a starting spot. It’s increasingly clear, in fact, that this was the decisive factor in Suzuki’s failed move to PSG.’

Key transfer points:

  • PSG agreed with both Parma and Suzuki
  • Agent and intermediaries’ high demand blamed for collapse
  • Aston Villa make offer to sign Japanese
  • Juve, keen on Martínez, monitoring developments
