Piero Ausilio has now left the post of Inter Milan’s sporting director and could soon be in the picture to join Tottenham.
The news came as a shock to many, as the Italian departs the Serie A champions some weeks into the season. This also came after the Nerazzurri had a very good transfer window, where they signed three English players.

Spurs have made contact
TuttoSport report Dario Baccin is formally set to replace Ausilio as the sporting director at Inter. This is seen as a ‘seismic shake-up’ which can rock Inter in the middle of the season.
The newspaper note that Ausilio had always signed contract extensions at the end of seasons. His current deal runs out in 2027 and many expected a same pattern to follow. But at the end of last season, the Oaktree management offered him a one-year extension, with Ausilio wanted a three-year deal. He also wanted more backing, which hasn’t quite arrived.
Now, he is already looking at the future. Premier League could be a destination and Tottenham could be leading the charge for the 51-year-old.
Roberto De Zerbi has a ‘close personal friendship’ with the director and this could be key.
Spurs have been long-term admirers of the Italian. They made contact for a possible deal some months ago and could return to the picture, if things go to plan.
Ausilio will add direction
Throughout his spell at Inter, Auslio has often operated with a limited budget. Despite that, he has always recruited smartly, leading to Inter winning three titles in recent years. He adds a lot of direction to recruitment and Tottenham need that.
While they are rebuilding and have signed several key players, much of it has been driven by De Zerbi.
An experienced director like Ausilio will add direction and work with his compatriot. That is why this could be a key signing for Spurs.
